I took a chance on myself

22 Jun 2026 2 min read 360 words

I left a steady job at an established brand and went full time on my own. No real safety net. A camera, an eye for this, and a decision to back myself.

This is the first of these notes. Short, honest pieces about building something from nothing. So I will start with me.

I did not get here in a straight line. Curiosity pulled me into media first. Then photography, and I have been shooting since before 2014. The camera taught me how to look at things, and slowly it became more than the camera.

I am from Gdansk, in Poland. I have spent half my life moving between there and the UK before settling in Liverpool. Different places, different jobs, a lot of starting again. It taught me to adapt fast, read people quickly, and lean on myself when there was no one else to lean on.

Here is the thing. I did not jump blind. By then I had already built real things. I ran a small family business as COO, B2B and B2C, turning over six figures a month. I built the foundation of an online shop and took a brand from nothing to launch. I set up and ran the media team at Cars N Coffee Liverpool. I helped turn Shum Foundation from an idea into something that works. Those are the foundations, and I could feel them under me.

And yet I found myself there, just another number on a payroll. Inside a machine that did not care what its people valued, and did nothing to help them grow. Steady, yes. But steady was quietly costing me.

That was not even the main thing. The decision was simpler than all of it. It was now or never. So I chose now.

These notes are the work in the open. The wins and the slow weeks. The projects I am proud of and the ones still half finished. No filter on the process.

I took a chance on myself. I turn an ordinary life into a less ordinary one. And I will show all of it.

If that is your kind of thing, stick around.
